0.6: Lockbox, Master Key, PIN

The three things Ab gives you, named the same way everywhere; a PIN chosen at setup; and reasoning summed up in one line.

New

  • One vocabulary. Your conversations live in a Lockbox sealed on your device. A Master Key (12 words on a page you download) opens it anywhere. A PIN opens it on a device you trust. The landing page, setup, the unlock screen and Settings all use these names now.
  • PIN at setup. Choosing a PIN is part of setting up your Lockbox, right after you save your Master Key. Everyone gets one on every device they open the Lockbox on, so "Ask every time" in Settings means a PIN, not 12 words.
  • Set or change your PIN from Settings. Settings › Lockbox now has a PIN row with the control, alongside the Master Key row.
  • Thought summaries. After a reply finishes, the collapsed Thoughts row is replaced with one short line saying what the model was reasoning about. The full reasoning is still one click away. The summary is written by the same model on your device, only after your answer is on screen, so it never slows a reply down.
  • What's new. When a release is worth knowing about, a single line at the top of the app says so, once. What you've seen is stored in your browser, not on our servers. The sidebar shows which version you're on and links to this changelog.

Improved

  • Setup is one screen. The three things appear as a list that fills in: Lockbox done, Master Key to save, PIN to choose. No steps to count.
  • Straighter words. "Unlock workspace" is "Open Lockbox"; "Recovery Kit" is your Master Key; "Regenerate" is "Issue new key". The privacy docs say the same.
